1. Poipet (1) (Trịnh Hội) (Friday, August 28, 2009 1:14:17 PM - Vann Phan)

2. More adventures, and until we meet again (Thursday, January 03, 2008 10:44:55 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
It is hard to imagine that two years have passed since my first attempt at being a columnist. Much has happened and 2007 is, one could say undoubtedly, one defining year to remember. Well, for me and my cosmic soul at least.
3. Journey to the Center of the Universe (Thursday, September 13, 2007 7:25:03 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
Though only a recent tradition, our family has made a commitment since the start (of our union that is) to see a new country every year for our annual summer holiday, a time when we all happily, of course, have to pay double the price for half the quality (and quantity) found during the rest of the year.
4. Sometimes, you just have to do the unexpected (Saturday, June 23, 2007 3:19:20 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
Whether playing on a Wimbledon tennis court, working in a refugee camp in Darfur, writing by the seaside of any wind-swept town, or simply returning to our roots for an adventure, I urge you to think big and just … jump. Chances are you won’t break a leg, and in the process, will get to live the life you’ve always wanted.
5. Our Past, Our Present. Our Future, Our VOICE (Thursday, March 15, 2007 4:43:24 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
I took this headline from the VOICE Web site at www.vietnamvoice.org. In eight short words, it sums up everything that our newly established NGO will try to do and achieve. To win asylum for the last remaining Vietnamese refugees in Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines, all a remnant of our tortured past.
6. A new home brings both security and yearnings for an old home (Thursday, February 15, 2007 3:11:48 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
This is one of the last framed maxims that I recently put up in my house. It’s my very first home in the U.S. — the first home in my life, for that matter. Never would I imagine that one day I would become a permanent resident of this land.
7. An ending is a new beginning (Thursday, December 28, 2006 3:24:25 PM - )
My paternal grandpa passed away two weeks ago in Sài Gòn at 85. He grew up poor and died just the same way, leaving pretty much nothing behind. Except perhaps his tiny one-bedroom apartment where my grandma, three of their adult children with their spouses and four of their grandchildren cram in to subsist. And a rich legacy among his 20-odd grandchildren, myself included, of how generous and caring a man he turned out to be, especially in times of crisis.
8. Why do human do good? (Thursday, November 02, 2006 4:45:05 PM - By Hoi Trinh)
I half want to write a Vietnamese piece on the traffic condition in Việt Nam and how it mirrors, in more ways than one, how most local Vietnamese lead their sheltered lives. The other half however simply wants to just move on with the world here in sunny California where we are less concerned with the homeland’s daily routine, and more with what we all yearn for.
